Composed of 2,400 cut paper pieces, the sculpture dissects the image of the white picket fence, a symbol of the American Dream, surreally thickened to one foot as it shifts into the Mandarin character for "freedom" (自由). In the heavy aftermath of election night, the sculpture refused to remain upright. The weight of 2,400 cut paper pieces, collapsing and leaning, revealed itself as the only honest form. Its limpness mirrors the exhaustion of adaptation, perpetual vigilance, and translation: reshaping to fit, watching the ground shift, carrying two selves without fully arriving in either.
Spectators are invited to tear away the fence piece by piece, hands meeting the line that once sheltered me while shutting you out. As it comes undone, what once stood between us becomes the ground we inhabit together.
