Untitled (our side), 2022
Medium: Borrowed objects and stolen power
Dimensions: 14’x35”x42”
Untitled (our side) challenges the abuse of power inherent in police brutality. Through its choice of materials, the artwork invites viewers to question the concepts of borrowing and theft: Is the police barricade simply a borrowed object, or does it symbolize power originally granted by the people—now stolen through its abuse by those in authority?
By merging a police barricade with the rockers of a traditional rocking chair, the work subverts the image of unquestionable authority. This destabilization shakes the seemingly impenetrable nature of power, reopening space for negotiation and dialogue about its origin, definition, and use.
