這件以黑色髮辮與鋁鑄件(casting object)結合而成的雕塑作品,首先在視覺上便以強烈的材質對比吸引觀者目光:一方面是柔軟、帶有身體記憶與性別象徵的髮辮,另一方面則是堅硬、冰冷且具工業感的鋁鑄件材質。這兩種看似相互對立的元素,在作品中卻交織或融合,隱喻了女性在社會中長期面臨的壓抑與否定,也暗示著她們在堅韌與脆弱之間所經歷的自我拉扯與重塑。

從概念層面來看,作品透過「She isn’t」到「She is ____________」的轉變,呼應了女性在歷史長河中屢屢遭受的「否定」與「邊緣化」處境,也反映了當代追求社會轉型正義的過程。當「She isn’t」被塗改或改寫為「She is ____________」的瞬間,藝術家象徵性地將負面敘事扭轉為積極聲音,試圖為女性重新開啟無限的敘事空間。在這過程中,「She is ____________」的空白處猶如一個尚未被填寫、等待各種可能的容器,象徵著女性能以自主姿態詮釋並形塑自我,而非被動地承受外界賦予的刻板印象或限制。

髮辮的選擇不僅帶有個人身體與記憶的印記,也常被視為文化與性別身份的象徵。將髮辮以編織、纏繞或結合的方式呈現,進一步暗示出歷史層層疊加的「纏束」,讓人聯想到女性在漫長社會結構中遭受的束縛。然而,作品同時運用鋁鑄件的堅硬與重量,作為對抗或支撐的意象,讓原本脆弱的髮辮獲得某種力量與張力。這種矛盾卻又互補的材質對話,不僅展現出女性在現實環境中所面臨的多重壓力,也在情感層面回應了個體如何在不斷「被否定」的歷史中尋求「自我肯定」的過程。

整體而言,作品在視覺與概念兩個層面皆蘊含強烈的敘事力量:它不僅透過材質與造型引導觀者思考女性經驗的多重面向,也在「She is ____________」的未完成句式中,開放了一個關於性別、身份與社會正義的討論空間。藝術家藉由「塗改」、「轉化」的行為,象徵性地翻轉了長期對女性的否定性敘事,並以髮辮與鋁鑄件的結合,訴說女性堅韌、可塑與多樣的力量,最終指向一種「她是」,而不再僅僅停留在「她不是」的可能性。

 

It transforms “She isn’t” into “She is ____________,” evoking the long history of negation and marginalization faced by women. When “She isn’t” is crossed out, the negative narrative becomes a positive voice that opens an infinite space for women’s stories. The blank in “She is ____________” serves as an unwritten container, inviting endless possibilities and symbolizing women’s capacity to define and shape their own identities rather than passively accepting imposed stereotypes.

Visually and conceptually, the work wields potent narrative force. The juxtaposition of braided hair and aluminum casting invites viewers to explore the tension between resilience and vulnerability—capturing the internal tug-of-war women face in a world demanding constant self-reinvention amid historical constraints. Through this transformation, the piece subverts entrenched negative narratives, celebrating women’s resilience, malleability, and diverse strength, ultimately affirming what “she is” rather than what “she isn’t.”
